Born at Oldham on the 8th March 1918, the birth being registered during the
March quarter 1918 in the Oldham R.D. - ref: 8d/876, the son of Thomas &
Florence Eliza Wild (nee Southworth).

Leslie's father - Thomas was an Engineer's Tool Shaper, later a Press Tool
Shaper.  At some point during the 1930s the family moved from Oldham to 5
Romley Road, Urmston, probably to enable Thomas to work at Trafford Park.  
Leslie trained as a Butcher.

At the start of the War, he joined the A.F.S. (Auxiliary Fire Service)
which was an unpaid voluntary service.  Some were eventually paid to become
full-time firemen, stationed at Urmston No. 8 Post.

Duties.    Leslie Wild - Single - born on the 8th March 1918 -  occ:
Butcher and A.F.S. Urmston.   Vera Wild - Married - born on the 7th June
1921 - occ: Typist.   Florence Wild - Single - born on the 27th November
1925 - occ: At School.

The family later moved to 49 Dumber Lane, Ashton upon Mersey.   Leslie was
called up and posted into the Royal Army Medical Corps.   Drafted to
North-Africa.  Although the War had moved on by then, there was still a
need to protect key areas, e.g. The Suez Canal.  Disease and sickness were
still rife and Leslie was needed in the various hospitals there.  Leslie
died in one of those hospitals.

M.I. - "Our dear beloved son, Les.  God has him in his keeping; we have him
in our hearts".

Commemorated on the family gravestone in St. Martin's Ref: 2.31.

His father Thomas died 17/07/1976 aged 81 and his mother Florence died
02/02/1961 aged 63.
