Extra Information:
Before the war, L/Cpl Thursting was employed in the machine room of Allied
Newspapers Ltd., Manchester.

At the time of his death, he had been married for only three years and had
a two year old daughter.

Part of the Dunkirk evacuation, he was being returning from France with a
broken leg on the hospital ship Paris. The deck was covered with injured
men when the ship was machine gunned. He was one of 25 that were hit and
as a consequence, he was badly wounded in the head and died in hospital in
the south of England.

The hospital ship Paris was sunk on the 2nd June, which contradicts his
date of death. The local newspaper reported that a total of nine
British hospital ships had been attacked by then, but only the "Paris" had
been sunk.

Buried 04/06/1940 - Burial No. 22979.

Grave purchased by Mrs. Vera Thursting.

His Brother Edward John Thursting also died on Active Service.
