Born during the September quarter 1912 in the Chorlton R.D. - ref: 8c/1599, the son of Albert John & Daisy Smith (nee Morgan). Baptised at St. Clement's P.C., Greenheys, Manchester on the 17th July 1912 - residence: 25 Butler Street, Greenheys - father's occ: Van man. 1911 Census - His parents were residing at 89 Mauldeth Road, Withington, Manchester. Head of household: Albert John Smith - Married - aged: 31 - occ: Laundry Van man - born: Stretford, Lancashire. Also - Daisy Smith - Wife - aged: 25 - occ: Packer & Sorter at Laundry - born: Rusholme, Manchester Plus one son - Albert Smith, aged: 6. Joined the Metro-Vicker's Company as a Labourer in October 1937 and employed in the Receiving Department. Joined the Territorial Army and mobilised in September 1939 and later posted to the Far East. KinA in Burma (now Myanmar) in May 1944. WIKIPEDIA - The 77th Indian Infantry Brigade was an infantry brigade formation of the Indian Army during World War II. It was formed in India in June 1942. The brigade was assigned to the Chindits and organised into eight columns for operations behind enemy lines in Burma. |
