Born on 22/11/1921.   Attended Altrincham Grammar School.    Member of the
3rd Altrincham Rover Scout Troop.   Joined RAF in July 1941and became a
Wireless Operator.

Took off at 18.55 hours from RAF Elvington, Yorkshire in a Halifax Mk II -
No. LW224 KN-T, to bomb Hannover.  They were hit by Flak and crashed into
the Waddenzee, off Den Helder at 21.52 hours.

The crew members were:- Pilot - Flight Sgt Joseph Gordon Stuart;  Sgt.
Donald Bruce, aged: 19; Sgt. Clifford Cobley,  aged: 30 and the above, Sgt.
John Fletcher are commemorated on the Runnymede Memorial, Surrey.
Flight Engineer - Sgt. Stephen Frank Clarke, aged: 19 and the Navigator  -
Sgt. Arthur Stanley Corlett, aged: 23, are both buried at the Den Burgh
General Cemetery on Texel.  

CWGC states simply 'Sergeant'.

His elder brother, Harold was attached to Military Intelligence.   The
31/03/44 edition of the local newspaper states that his brother was serving
in Burma.
