Born during the June quarter 1916 in the Chester R.D. - ref: 8a/637, the
second son of Harry Briggs & Mary Mellor (nee Mellor). 

1921 Census - Christleton Road, Chester, Great Boughton, Cheshire.   Son -
aged: 5 - born: Chester.   Head of household - Harry Briggs Mellor -
Married - aged: 45 - occ: Incorporated Accountant for the Cheshire County
Education Committee - born: Macclesfield, Cheshire.  Also Mary Mellor -
Wife - aged: 45 - occ: Home Duties - born: Macclesfield.   Plus 2 elder
siblings.

His mother died on the 6th March 1931 and his father on the 21st April
1933.

Married Florence A. Thomas during the December quarter 1937 inthe Chester
R.D. - ref: 8a/873.

Mellor - Born on the 28th September 1914 (sic) - Married - occ: General
Labourer - Shell Boxes.   Florence A. Mellor - Born on the 29th December
1914 - Married - occ: Unpaid Domestic Duties.

The Chester Observer dated the 31st July 1943 reported that Harry was
missing.  It also states that he was born at Christleden, attended the
Cherry Grove School and the Love Street School, Chester, was sides-man at
Christledon Church and a member of the Christledon Cricket Club.

He took off at 21.42 hrs from RAF Melbourne piloting a Halifax MkII Bomber
No. JB961 ZA-R for a bombing raid on Motbéliard.  The a/c crashed at
Recey-sur-Ource, some 52 Km NNW of Djon, fairly close to the border with
Switzerland.

Death  reported in the 26th February and the 4th March 1944 editions of the
Manchester Evening News which states he was 27 years of age.  He attended
Love Street School and on leaving was employed on the Crosseville Motors
Clerical Staff.   He enlisted into the King's (Liverpool) Rgt, but in 1941
enlisted into the the R.A.F. gaining his 'Wings' in America in 1942.
