Graduated from university with a B.A. History (Hons) 1913, and an M.A in 1914. Member of the Broadheath Weslyan Church. Captain of the Broadheath C.C. Intended a career in the Indian Civil Service. He joined the University's OTC and was commissioned in July 1916. Ardwick Territorial Bn. He was taking a working party up to the front line by train, when a shell hit his waggon - killed by shrapnel in his skull. Death reported in the 19/10/1917 edition of the Altrincham Guardian. Listed simply as Sydney John Davie (no 's') on the Roll of Honour. Listed in the Guardian Year Book - Roll of Honour for 1918. M.I. - "In loving remembrance of a bright, pure, young life, given for others". | |||
