Joined the Metro-Vicker's Company as a Probationary Trade Apprentice in August 1931 and became a Trade Apprentice in May 1932. On completion of his apprenticeship in May 1937, he joined the staff of the Projector Drawing Office. Joined the RAF in September 1941; commissioned as a Pilot Officer and later promoted to the rank of Flying Officer. KinA whilst on air operations in May 1943.
