The Modesta was built in 1917, its gross register tonnage was 3,830, it was 357 feet long, 50 feet wide and could make 9.5 knots.It was one of 3 old ships operated by the J.W. Paulin, Uundenportink 2, Viipuri, Finland. A cargo ship, it became a British - Ministry of War Vessel. Near Bermuda, travelling from the Carribean to the U.S.A, on the 25/04/42 she was torpedoed by U-108 and sank in position - 33.40N 63.10W. It was lost with all its crew of 19. |
