Born during the September quarter 1921 in the Bucklow R.D. - ref: 8a/289, the son of Charles Edward & Maude Kennerley (nee Jeffrey). Charles was also killed during WW2. Attended Stamford Park School and Altrincham Grammar School. Employed as a Sorting Clerk at the Altrincham Post Office. 1939 National Registration - No Trace of the family. His father was already serving, so would not be included in this census. Volunteered for the RAF in June 1941 and went to Canada for training, returning to the UK in April 1942. A Pilot, he was killed in a flying accident at Witham, Colne Without, Yatesborough. He was flying a Hawker Typhoon Ib DN532 when the tail, followed by parts of the wings fell off (Air Ministry Information). The Typhoon was subsequently modified after realising the engine was too fast for the airframe. Buried 19/01/1943 - Burial No. 11,563. CWGC Headstone. M.I. - "In loving memory, also his father, Able Seaman C.E. Kennerley killed in action at sea 31st December 1942". His father, Charles Edward, who had quite an extensive service record, was also killed on Active Service. The day before his wife was due to bury their son Charles Geoffrey, she was informed the her husband had also been killed. Death reported in the 22nd January 1943 edition of the Sale & Stretford Guardian. In 2004, aged: 70, his brother - Ron Kennerley researched both his father's and his brother's service records and wrote a long article about them that included photographs of them both.
