H.M.S. Diamond along with H.M.S. Wryneck had, between them, just a few hours earlier, rescued 700 troops from the Dutch Liner Slamat when they were both sunk by German air attack at 13.15hrs on the 27/04/41 south of Nauplia, in position 36.30N 11.10E. Only 50 survivors were found from all three ships - none from H.M.S. Diamond. It was a 'D' Class Destroyer (of which 9 were built between 1930 & 1931). They had a displacement of 1,375 tons and a complement of 145 personnel. | |||
