The Koranton was built in 1920, it's gross register tonnage was 6,695, it was 429 feet long, 55 feet wide and could make 11.5 knots. A cargo ship. it was one of 17 ships operated by R. Chapman & Son, Maritime Buildings, King Street, Newcastle upon Tyne 1. Travelling from Philadelphia to Hull, on the 27/03/41 she was torpedoed by U-98 and sank in position - 59N 27W. There were no survivors, and all 34 crew/passengers were lost. |
