Attended Sale Central School. Employed in the Audit Office of the Manchester Ship Canal Co, in Manchester. A regular worshipper at the Ashton on Mersey Congregational Church and a member of the Acorn Club based at that Church. H.M.S. Birdlip was a Naval Trawler that on convoy duty when, early in the morning of the 13th June 1944, it was torpedoed and sunk by U-547 off Greenville, Liberia, off the west coast of Africa. The S.S. Saint Basile was also sunk in the same exchange with U-547. His elder brother served in the RAF.  | |||
