Born at Ashton-upon-Mersey on the 23rd October 1917, the birth being registered during the December quarter 1917 in the Bucklow R.D. - ref: 8a/238, the son of Herbert & Lizzie Cash (nee Millett). His father was a a markey gardener residing at Green Lane House, Green Lane, AoM. Attended St. Martin's P.C. School, AoM. Employed by the Enfield Cable & Rolling Works, Manchester. Played football for Altrincham & St. Martin's Football Clubs. 939 National Registration - No Trace indicating the he was already serving in the Army. The 19/07/1946 edition of the local newspaper stated that he died of wounds and that he was twice mentioned in dispatches. See also the 27/10/1944 edition of the Sale & Stretford Guardian. Initially buried in a Battlefield grave, post war re-interred in the Coriano Ridge Cemetery. Private Memorial Window in St. Martin's - not listed on the main Memorial Window. Commemorated on the family gravestone in St. Martin's Ref: 3.141. His father Herbert died 09/08/1953 aged 63 and his mother died 02/01/1963 aged 70.  | |||
