Born on the 15th February 1895 at 30 Stockport Road, Altrincham, the birth
being registered during the March quarter 1895 in the Altrincham R.D. -
ref: 8a.197, the elder son of George William & Margaret Roberta Tinker (nee
Johnson).  Baptised at St. George's P.C. Altrincham on the 3rd April 1895.

1901 Census - 30 Stockport Road, Altrincham.  Son - aged: 6 - born:
Altrincham.   Head of household - George W. Tinker - Married - aged: 40 -
occ: Coal Merchant - born: Manchester.   Also - Margaret R. Tinker - Wife -
aged: 35 - born: Lancaster, Lancashire.   Plus 2 siblings and 1 Domestic
Servant.

1911 Census -  30 Stockport Road, Altrincham.  Son - aged: 15 - occ: Clerk
- born: Altrincham.   Head of household - George W. Tinker - Married -
aged: 48 - occ: Coal Merchant - born: Salford.   Also - Margaret R. Tinker
- Wife - aged: 43 - born: Lancaster, Lancashire.   Plus 3 siblings and 1
Domestic Servant.

Attended Rose Hill School, Bowdon.

Member of the Bowdon RUFC and the Ashley Cricket Club.

Employed by Messrs. Alfred. Brown & Co, woolen Merchants, Portland St,
Manchester.

WO363 - He enlisted at Manchester on the 4th September 1914.  He was aged:
19 years - 6 months, 5 feet 8½ inches innheight, weighed 131 lb, had a
ruddy complexion and had brown./grey eyes.  His chest measuremnets were 30
- 33 inches.

Drafted to the front in November 1915.     Promoted to Lance Corporal in
April 1916 and Corporal in November 1916.

Admitted into the Western General Hospital, Manchester hospital on the 13th
June 1916, suffering from Influenza.  Discharged on the 14th August 1916
and immediately returned to France, via Folkestone.

The 04/05/1917 edition of the local newspaper reported that he had been
awarded the Military Medal.    He was dead a week later, having DoW at
Rouen, France.

A further report in the 11/05/1917 edition stated that he had been wounded
on the 23/04/1917 and was in hospital at the front.   A third report in the
15/05/1917 edition stated that he had DoW in hospital.   The report also
stated that his brother Frederick Tinker, Manchester Rgt, had died at home
on the 19/11/1916 in his 18th year.

Listed in the Guardian Year Book - Roll of Honour for 1918.

His mother - Margaret Roberta ("Bobbie") Tinker died 1st November 1931,
aged: 65 years.

M.I. - "Thy will be done".  (France).

Stockport Road, Altrincham.   Awarded 5/- per week w.e.f. the 6th November
1918

His bother - Frederick Clarke Tinker also died during WW1 and is buried in
Altrincham (Hale) Cemetery.
